Alcoholism, also called alcohol dependence, is a disease that includes the following four symptoms. If your loved one has any of these symptoms, further evaluation or a professional assessment is recommended:
Craving – A strong need, or powerful urges to drink.
Loss of control – Drinking more than you planned or not being able to stop drinking once you start.
Physical dependence – Withdrawal, such as sweating, shakiness, or anxiety after stopping drinking.
Tolerance – The need to drink greater amounts of alcohol to get the same effect.
