Even though our culture is more accepting of LGBT youth than it used to be, LGBT youth still face higher rates of homelessness, substance abuse, depression, and suicidal thoughts.

Shameless, the hit TV series created by Paul Abbott, is anything but subtle. It paints a portrait of addiction’s “ripple effect” on the family—an effect that is by turns violent, gross, tragic, absurd, and hilarious, but never far off the mark.

As the New Year begins, most of us resolve to conquer the cravings that have taken hold throughout the year. One charity is challenging people to lose weight, save money, and get healthy by abstaining from alcohol during “Dry January.”

Thanks to many kind donations, 69 clients of Phoenix House Orange County received large stockings full of gifts. In addition, 25 of these clients had children who also received presents thanks to our volunteers and charitable contributors!
