Promising Youth Alliance (PYA), the alliance of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas, and Phoenix House, collaborating to bring excellent, comprehensive afterschool care to children who often have none, has signed a five-year lease with the Dallas Housing Authority to operate its integrated programs out of the Roseland Historic Building. The agreement enables PYA to bring quality afterschool programs to the youth of Roseland. The Roseland community includes Roseland Townhomes and Estates, Monarch and Carroll Townhomes with almost 400 families.

PYA’s board of directors also announced the hiring of a CEO and program and administrative staff. CEO Robbie Douglas was most recently director of business development for the North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee, where she managed the Sponsorship Development program as well as the Emerging Business program for woman and minority-owned businesses. She was previously publishing director for a special issue of D Magazine, group marketing manager at PepsiCo, and customer marketing manager at Coca-Cola.

J.D. (Denny) Carreker, Jr., chairman of PYA’s board, said, “We are fortunate to have a born leader like Robbie, with her corporate and non-profit business development skills and connections, at our helm. She has the ability to bring together the partnerships that make PYA a remarkable model for efficient use of private funding in meeting ambitious goals for improving the lot of children.”

Mr. Carreker added, “At Roseland, PYA is establishing the kind of public/private community alliance that Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings and Police Chief David Brown tout as the best way to make a difference for our children: an intelligent collaboration among excellent private organizations brought straight to neighborhoods and children who need it.”

Ms. Douglas said, “Our Roseland presence allows PYA to continue the steady progress toward serving more youth with quality afterschool care programs. After successful pilots of our program at three DISD schools – elementary, middle, and high schools – Roseland makes it possible for PYA to fully integrate the national programs of our top tier partner agencies.”

Troy Broussard, Senior Vice President/COO of DHA, said, “We couldn’t be more pleased with PYA as our newest partner. PYA’s programs bring the best of three extraordinary organizations to the families in the Roseland communities.”

Chairman of the Promising Youth Alliance and Phoenix Houses of Texas Board member Denny Carreker says this about PYA:

“Thousands of our young people, the future of our community, are not being ‘saved by the bell’ but left to their own devices, despite many great programs in Dallas. In PYA great programs are integrated to address the whole child. That is what makes PYA unique: we are a collaboration of the best that delivers superior programming when and where the child needs it.”
