2009 PSA Luncheon Honored Congressman Pete Sessions
Location: Dallas, TX
Phoenix House was delighted to present Congressman Pete Sessions with this year’s Public Service Award on Monday, June 1st, honoring his outstanding support and contribution to our community over the years. The event took place at the Hilton Anatole Hotel, Stemmons Ballroom in Dallas, Texas. Congressman Sessions and our guests were treated to a wonderful lunch and the entertaining dialogue of Event Co-chair Paul Bass, Jr., who was joined by his son and grandson, Paul Bass III, and Paul Bass IV. In addition to the Congressman’s extensive interest in the addiction prevention field, he has shown great sponsorship and advocacy for causes including the Boy Scouts of America and diabetes research and prevention, among many others. In special recognition of Congressman Sessions’ efforts to preserve and enhance the natural beauty of White Rock Lake, we were pleased to dedicate a park bench along the lakeside in his honor. Phoenix House believes that Congressman Sessions is certainly well-deserving of this recognition, as his passionate service to the greater Dallas area has been far-reaching and heart-felt.

2009 New England Public Service Award
Phoenix Houses of New England honored GTECH’s Donald R. Sweitzer, Chairman, and Jaymin B. Patel, President and Chief Executive Officer at its ninth annual Public Service Award on Thursday, June 18. Among more than three hundred guests attending the luncheon were numerous Rhode Island government and civic leaders.

The luncheon, which annually honors exceptional men and women whose achievements serve as an inspiration to young people struggling with substance abuse, raised more than $151,000 in support of Phoenix House’s treatment, education and prevention programs throughout the New England region. GTECH, a leading Rhode Island business with a strong commitment to youth and education, has been a generous supporter of Phoenix House, most recently donating the GTECH Technology Center, a state-of-the-art computer laboratory, to Phoenix Academy at Wallum Lake in Rhode Island. Previous honorees represent leading businesses in Southeastern New England.

    • What's an intervention?

When people engage in self-destructive behavior, they often don't realize that they need help.
