Youth Services Committee Events and Activities Fall 2011

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

On October 4, 2011, Phoenix House Youth Services Committee Member and artist, Wendy Mark, opened her solo show Drive at the Jill Newhouse Gallery located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. With 150 guests in attendance, the opening was a tremendous success. Wendy’s work, which includes beautiful watercolors, drawings, and monotypes, is currently on view and up for sale through October 29, 2011, and 20% of the proceeds will benefit teenage clients at Phoenix House. This fall, Wendy will also conduct a workshop on monotype making for our Phoenix House Academy teens. It will be a great opportunity for our clients to gain exposure to a fascinating form of art, and to learn first-hand about building a career in the art world from an extremely talented and accomplished artist.

The Youth Services Committee (YSC) works hard to support the young men and women across Phoenix House of New York on their roads to recovery.  Made up entirely of volunteers, the YSC’s mission is to raise awareness about adolescent alcohol and drug use through fundraising, events, and educational programs. The YSC collects gift card donations to a variety of stores and restaurants for our teen clients. The cards are intended to reward positive behavior and progress among the youth in our programs, and are collected on an ongoing basis at all Youth Services events.

Each year, to bring cheer to the holiday season and support our teens, the YSC coordinates a Holiday Gift Drive. Volunteers are currently collecting girls and boys bath products, lotions and perfumes; adult clothing in a range of flexible sizes, such as draw string pajama bottoms, sweatshirts, sweatpants, thermal underwear, T-shirts, fleeces, socks, and bathrobes. They will wrap the gifts and distribute them to Phoenix House teens just in time for the holidays. If you would like to make a donation to the YSC Holiday Gift Drive, please contact Jessica Henges at jhenges@phoenixhouse.org.
