Santa Fe Springs Women and Children’s Program has a series of events lined up for this year’s National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month, while the residents of Venice will continue their program and enjoy a Day at the Beach.
• 9/15/11 – Women & Children’s Service’s Celebrate Sobriety Bowling Party – the entire group of residents and program alumni held a celebration at a local bowling alley (which gave our facility a significant discount) for pizza, bowling, and sober fun. The vital part of recovery is to gain “sober recreational skills” since socializing with drug and alcohol created behavioral patterns that hamper recovery and may cause relapse.
• 9/17/11 – Daughters of the King – A local church’s recovery ministry is sponsoring a a dinner in celebration of Recovery Month. We have identified 20 women to attend this event and report back to all the residents about the lessons learned.
• 9/20/11 Getting to Know You – Staff at Santa Fe Springs will be facilitating a one day retreat for the women residing at our SFS facility. We will offer specialized closed groups/seminars which will help the women focus on areas such as Your Power and Inner Strength, Communication, Understanding your Co-occurring Disorder, and Relationships. We will also have an opening ceremony, and a closing ceremony which will include report backs from the representatives for each group. On this day, staff will be responsible for all the core functions and services in the house, such as serving meals, maintenance, and so forth. It is our hopes that this retreat will provide learning and growth opportunities and help the women to look at their choices and opportunities at Phoenix House in a different way.
• 9/25/11 – Families Recovery Day on the Beach – Phoenix House of Los Angeles, Venice will focus on family relationships and sober recreation during its Families Recovery Day on the Beach, held on Sunday, September 25th. Clients will bring their partners and children for a picnic and activities on the beach, including beach volleyball, games, raffles, and a barbecue.
