Phoenix Houses of the Mid-Atlantic held its 15th annual Recovery Celebration on September 18th at the Knights of Columbus in Arlington. The annual celebration is a great occasion to recognize the achievements of those who have successfully overcome addiction.
The keynote speaker was Clarence Joyner who shared his story of recovery. “My greatest trouble led me to my great blessing”, he said. “I thank God for my humiliation. Humiliation haunted me to ask for assistance – and I got it.”
For his outstanding service to the Phoenix Houses of Mid-Atlantic Alumni Association David Washington was honored by George Knoerlein with the Alumni of the Year award. During the ceremony also veteran school administrator Meg Tuccillo and Patricia Romano, director of court services for the Arlington Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court, were honored by Debby Taylor, regional vice-president of Phoenix Houses of the Mid-Atlantic, with community-service awards.
Clients in each of Phoenix Houses of the Mid-Atlantic programs entertained the audience with skits, songs and poems.
