On Friday, November 18th, Phoenix Houses of New York hosted its 34th Annual Recovery Celebration at the beautiful Hotel Pennsylvania in the heart of Manhattan. Over 300 people were present to witness the ceremony and to hear the moving stories of two of the graduates. Arlene González-Sánchez, Commissioner of the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services was the guest speaker for the evening, delivering a wonderful message of triumph and dedication over substance abuse. Honorary Graduate awards were presented to Lillian Uryash and Audrey Jones, who collectively have worked for Phoenix House for 47 years. The Alum of the Year award was given to The Reverend Sheila Glenn from the Graduating Class of 1984. Since completing treatment at Phoenix House, Reverend Glenn has gone on to earn a degree from Harvard University. The evening was a complete success, and we are very proud to honor and congratulate the Graduating Class of 2011.
