Phoenix House Dallas County Judicial Treatment Center hosts its first Poetry Slam! The purpose of the event is to empower clients through creative arts expression, as well as be an outlet for stress in a controlled therapeutic environment. The event was a huge success, thanks to client and staff involvement.
Congratulations to all men and women who competed and performed, sharing their hearts and souls for all to see. The poetry, songs and jokes illustrated the great talents of the men and women at Phoenix DCJTC. More importantly, the activities demonstrated how to enjoy a DRUG FREE life! All in all, the event was very entertaining and emotional and will hopefully facilitate a deeper understanding of self, as well as fostering a new found respect for others.
Special recognition goes to Robert C. for his winning poem, “An Addicts Prayer”. His words ran deep and true amongst his peers and mentors.
The Addicts Prayer
“God bless me with peace. Fill me with dreams.
I accept all challenges. Keep me brave.
I know every day won’t be the same.
Guide my way.
I own my change.”
Thank you Robert for being so brave by stepping out to express yourself!
A special thanks to the staff that made all of this possible. Thank you for your incredible support.
