Abuse of opioids, in a wide variety of forms, is a well known problem across all age groups nationwide. North Texas has experienced an even larger increase in the use of heroin, which is currently considered an epidemic by the Drug Enforcement Administration. Unfortunately North Texas has been dealing with the influx of other forms of heroin for some time. Cheese, a much cheaper version of heroin, was introduced to the area decades ago and has remained a significant problem. The most recent research indicates that the use of heroin has risen in recent years, with the percentage of high school students who reported having used heroin increasing from 2.1% to 3.3% in a two year period. The DEA has begun to fight back in a novel way: billboards across North Texas urge citizens to anonymously report heroin activity with the aim to identify dealers and ultimately help put an end to the crisis.
While the DEA and local law enforcement are focused on getting to the source of the problem and eliminating the trafficking of heroin, Phoenix House Texas works tirelessly to assist those who are struggling with opioid addiction. We are experienced in combating the heroin epidemic and its consequences in North Texas and are dedicated to the successful recovery of our students and our community.
