Phoenix House Long Island City Center’s Women’s Program celebrated the holidays with their peers, families, and their counselor Lauren Reynolds at an innovative, fun celebration of their progress in treatment. Their “Holiday Family Love Feast” featured a special guest “Snowman of Recovery” created with contributions by the women in residential treatment especially for this in-house event.
The base of the snowman contained feelings and mottos contributed by clients when they first entered treatment. The next section above comprised their thoughts and feelings as they successfully progressed in treatment, with each woman adding individual snowflakes to the backdrop of the display summarizing their goals, strengths, and unique qualities. Clients also invited their families to attend this holiday celebration of hope and accomplishment. The women presented their snowflakes to the group, which were later used as “snow” in the photo backdrop for photographs. A wonderful spread of food, refreshments, desserts, and other holiday goodies were enjoyed by everyone attending the party. The holidays are a time for many celebrations with family and friends, and this group definitely found a way to celebrate away from home and share their camaraderie. We are proud of their enthusiasm and progress in recovery.
