Join us to ring in the New Year at the Fourteenth Annual Polar Bear Plunge sponsored by The Seafood Shop, benefitting Phoenix House Academy of Long Island. Brave “Polar Bears” will gather at Beach Lane in Wainscott at 2:00 PM on January 1, 2013 to take the plunge into the chilly ocean for a wonderful cause. Hundreds of participants gather for this annual event, an East End tradition organized by Seafood Shop owner Colin Mather since 1999, of which we are grateful to participate.
“Polar Bears” and spectators can sign up for the event and make donations either in advance at The Seafood Shop or on the beach that day. For more information, please call 1 888 671 9392; donations can also be mailed to: The Seafood Shop, P.O. Box 246, Wainscott, NY 11975.
Following the fun in the surf, staff and students of Phoenix House Academy of Long Island will be answering questions about the Academy’s mission at The Seafood Shop, located at 356 Montauk Hwy., in Wainscott. Refreshments will be served.
Phoenix House runs substance abuse treatment and prevention programs for adults and adolescents, including the Phoenix House Academy of Long Island, serving male teens struggling with drug and alcohol abuse, located in East Hampton. Our Academy model is designed to help young clients prepare for productive, self-sufficient, substance-free lives. Residents complete treatment while taking part in the Academy’s fully accredited on-site academic program, allowing them to catch up on their studies or earn credit towards their high school diplomas.
