Clients from Phoenix House Academy at Springfield enjoy sober, healthy exercise at the YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts. Six days a week, the boys from the Academy are able to swim, work-out, and enjoy many of the classes and amenities available at the YMCA facility.
The Academy at Springfield, established in 2001, is a residential rehabilitation facility that provides substance abuse treatment and education to adolescent boys ages 13 to 18.
Phoenix House believes that involvement in recreational and physical activity can benefit recovery by reducing the stress that can trigger relapse. Exercise also helps alleviate boredom, which for some may be a key relapse trigger, and it may benefit teens emotionally by restoring balance in their lives and boosting their self-esteem.
Healthy minds and healthy bodies lead to a healthy recovery!
