Phoenix House enjoyed supporting “Take Back Prescription Drugs Day,” in San Diego on April 17, 2010, organized by the Oxy Task Force of San Diego County to help residents dispose of unneeded prescription medication that could be harmful or even deadly to their children and teens. Drop-off sites were organized in various parts of the county. According Susan Bower, Deputy Director of San Diego’s Alcohol and Drug Services, 941 people attended and brought 2,560 pounds of drugs, eight times as much as during the previous event held in October.

Some of the pills collected on Take Back Prescription Drugs DayPhoenix House staff was in five locations, distributing information about prescription drug abuse, addiction, and treatment. We are proud to be able to contribute to this worthy effort. The use of social media, including Phoenix House’s Facebook site, could be credited for the astounding growth in its popularity and success.
