On March 27, 2012, the Women’s Program at Citra hosted Phoenix House Idol, with clients/participants competing for the opportunity to record their original material through the Phoenix Rising Music Program, created by Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Kara DioGuardi. The creative arts therapy program encourages clients to express themselves through music. Participation in the creative arts has been proven to increase self-esteem, reduce anxiety and depression, and aid in the recovery process. Judges Craig Lamb (“Jackson”) and Jillian Connelly (“J-Lo”) critiqued the performances and the audience voted. The title of Phoenix House Women’s Program Idol was awarded to Tracy. As Tracy sang her original song, Living Free, a hush fell over the crowd. Phoenix House staff will now assist Tracy as she records her song with her own guitar arrangement. Congratulations Tracy!
