The Phoenix House Women’s Program at Citra provides gender-specific treatment for women who suffer from substance use disorders and/or behavioral health issues complicated by substance abuse. The campus is located on peaceful, secluded grounds in Citra, Florida. But recently the place was hopping to a different beat!
Last weekend the women at Phoenix House Citra hosted Ladies of the ’80s, a blast from the past and a full night of fun. Dressed in fluorescent-colored clothing of the era, the ladies made fashion statements with their hair and makeup. The women’s group room was transformed back into the ’80s with Gremlin, Ren & Stimpy, and other themed posters and decorations. They were all dressed to impress in their best ’80s apparel, and everyone danced the night away. With responsibilities divided among committees, the evening featured great food, super entertainment, games, break-dancing, double-dutch, and a Biggest Hair contest. Let’s not forget the Best Dressed winner, DeDee!
Ladies of the ’80s is another great example of helping clients develop life skills in a creative, nurturing drug- and alcohol-freeenvironment. Tina Turner would have been proud!
