Planning, management, safety, appropriate use of hand and power tools, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance are covered, with emphasis on the technical and life skills necessary to succeed in the profession. Presentations are conducted in a classroom setting, while hands-on work is done in the workshop with state-of-the-art tools and equipment. Students can also learn learn basic electrical theory and gain experience in residential wiring.

The Phoenix House Career Academy is an adult business and trade school accredited by the New York City Department of Education. The Career Academy is an innovative model of accelerated treatment with a fully operational vocational school on site; it is considered one of Brooklyn’s most successful vocational programs.
