Phoenix Houses of New England hosted its tenth annual Public Service Award Luncheon on Thursday, June 24, 2010. Joseph J. MarcAurele, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Washington Trust Company, was honored at the event for his outstanding leadership and contributions to the community. Before assuming his position at the The Washington Trust Company, Mr. MarcAurele, a long-time and generous corporate supporter of Phoenix House, served as Chairman, President and CEO of Citizens Bank Rhode Island. In that capacity, he was responsible for a major grant in support of renovations to the Learning Center at Phoenix House Academy at Wallum Lake.
The luncheon, which annually honors exceptional men and women whose achievements serve as an inspiration to young people struggling with substance abuse, was attended by more than three hundred and thirty guests and raised more than $127,000 in support of Phoenix House’s treatment, education, and prevention programs throughout the New England region.
