New York, NY, June 5, 2007 — Sumner Redstone, Les Moonves, ABC’s Lynn Sherr, BET’s Deborah Lee, Foreign Affairs editor James Hoge, political strategist Doug Schoen, and Shirley Lord Rosenthal were among those who gathered to honor Philippe Dauman, president and CEO of Viacom on June 5, as he received the 2007 Phoenix House Public Service Award. First presented in 1979, the award honors exceptional men and women whose achievements and service to society will inspire young people struggling to reclaim disordered lives.
“It is a joy to see our Public Service Award go to people as committed to public service as Philippe Dauman and the Viacom team,” said Howard Meitiner, president and CEO of Phoenix House. “Throughout the world they support causes that benefit youth, and they have made it possible, over the years, for Phoenix House to set scores of troubled young people on the road to recovery.”
“I have always felt our children are deserving of every effort we can give to help them succeed,” said Mr. Dauman. “I thank Phoenix House for this wonderful honor and I hope my peers will join us in this incredibly satisfying work.”
Singer-songwriter-pianist Peter Cincotti performed three new songs from his upcoming album as part of the program and students from the Phoenix Academy of New York, Phoenix House’s residential public high school in partnership with the NYC Department of Education, spoke about their experiences and how they have turned their lives around.
