About this Facility

Changing Youth Thinking (CYT) programs are designed to service adolescents and young adults, ages 12 to 17, who struggle with drug or alcohol misuse. The program model includes sixteen sessions delivered over an eight week program. Each program starts with an information session with the teen and his/her parent(s). The goal is for parents and teens to learn about the program, and for staff to conduct an in-depth assessment. Staff then work with the youth to address personal goals through case management, and individual and group therapy. Upon program completion, teens receive aftercare referrals to ensure that they receive continuing support. CYT offers young people the opportunity to participate in a variety of services designed to help them live alcohol and drug-free lives. Our core services for participants include:

Individual Counseling: One-on-one meetings are held between a young person and a primary counselor to discuss family, social, academic, and personal issues. Utilizing Teen Intervene, a research-based program combining stages of change, motivational enhancements, and cognitive-behavioral theory, teens are provided feedback about the effects of their behavior on their lives and future goals.

Group Sessions: Group sessions utilize a model drug abuse prevention/intervention curriculum known as Project Towards No Drug Abuse (TND). TND is a 12-session curriculum focused on specific topics, including: active listening, stereotyping, myths and denial, chemical dependency, marijuana use, tobacco cessation, stress and health, self-control, positive and negative thinking, perspectives, and decision-making and commitment.

Family Services: Drug and alcohol problems affect entire families. Just as substance abuse is a family disease, recovery is a family process. It is not enough to teach young people new ways to behave; we work with the entire family system to ensure maximum support throughout the recovery process.
