Outpatient Program Philosophy
Phoenix House Outpatient Programs go beyond the walls of the treatment facility to influence a person’s “outside community” – i.e., family, friends, and lifestyle – to assist in establishing an environment that is emotionally healthy to achieve your greatest potential. We use a range of evidence-based practices along with time-tested principles of recovery management.
Phoenix House establishes a structured environment where clients can more easily gain control of their lives by developing emotional, cognitive, social, behavioral, and educational skills. All activities address alcohol and/or other drug abuse issues so that those in our programs can learn to act in their own best interest, as well as in the best interests of their families and communities.
Our well-trained professional staff adjusts services to meet the diverse characteristics of those in our care, with attention paid to culture, ethnicity, age, gender and sexual orientation. Acting with warmth and compassion, our staff is sensitive to the mental health and trauma-related issues by helping to recognize and nourish individual strengths which serve as the foundation for recovery.
Our treatment philosophy centers on the concept of self-help, encouraging each individual to actively participate in his or her own treatment, as well as the concept of the community itself as healer, and the understanding that treatment and recovery are ongoing processes related in part to everyday experience. We embrace the view of “right living,” based on a clearly articulated value system emphasizing the importance of educational and vocational achievement, as well as personal fulfillment through a range of healthy relationships, including sober support networks of families and friends.
