Phoenix Houses of California operates three residential academies for teens in Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange County. Admissions & Fees

Phoenix House is supported with multiple funding sources. The exact fee paid depends on each individual case, personal income, and funding source.  Fees may be paid by:

  • Insurance benefits, with copayments determined by insurance plans;
  • MediCal and Drug MediCal for low-income clients;
  • Government contracts for qualifying individuals without the ability to pay; and
  • Self-pay, with a sliding fee scale, based on income.

Our Treatment Environment

All the Phoenix House Academies are located on spacious campuses, with ample space for dormitories, classrooms, meeting and counseling rooms, and sports facilities including softball, basketball and soccer fields.  The well-maintained and landscaped grounds feature gardening areas and outdoor meeting and recreation spaces.

Teachers and counselors work together to create a supportive environment for adolescents to develop and grow. Students learn the values of honesty and responsibility, and confront the underlying causes of their drug abuse. Family involvement is a key factor in the success of the program; the Academies offer parent education, counseling, and family therapy.

The Phoenix House Academy residential treatment model for adolescents was designated as an evidence-based practice in 2008 by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and placed on its National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices (NREPP). In 2006, it was recognized as a model program by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP).

    • What's an intervention?

      When people engage in self-destructive behavior, they often don't realize that they need help.
