Celebrating The Recovery Month in September

During the month of September, Phoenix House will be participating in numerous events to support National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month. Take a look of some of what is planned – you are invited to join us!

September 1, 2009, 9:30 am. Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Recovery Month Proclamation. Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, Board Hearing Room. Los Angeles

September 2, 2009, 11 am—2 pm. Rally for Prevention and Recovery. Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, outside Mall area by Hill St. Los Angeles. Sponsored by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, with participation of clients and staff from all regional programs – Phoenix Academy at Lake View Terrace, and Phoenix Houses of Venice, Monrovia, and Santa Fe Springs.

September 4, 2009, 2:30 pm – 5:30 pm. Recovery Month Celebration at Phoenix Academy of Los Angeles, Lake View Terrace, with awards for art projects, writing contests, and other client activities.

September 9, 2009 – 11 am – 2 pm. Meeting of the Los Angeles Reentry Roundtable at Phoenix House, Lake View Terrace, to discuss collaborative projects pertaining to adult services.

Saturdays in August until September 11, 2009 – Fit for Recovery 7-week program at Phoenix House Orange County, co-sponsored by fitness providers and engaging about 200 participants each week in a range of fitness and wellness activities. 1207 E. Fruit Street, Santa Ana, CA 92701.

September 11, 2009 – 11 am-2 pm – Recovery Happens Rally for San Diego County, with a banner contest, resource fair, sobriety countdown, and live entertainment. County Administration Center West Lawn, 1600 Pacific Highway, San Diego CA 92101

      Phoenix House operates Community Residences throughout the country for people who are struggling with substance abuse and diagnosed mental illness. Licensed by local and state agencies, our residential programs offer a structured, safe and supportive living environment where clients can receive comprehensive treatment. Please check our locations to see what programs are offered in your area.
    • Outpatient

      Phoenix House offers emergency help, evaluation and referral services, and short-term treatment for clients who are living at home.
    • Center on Addiction and the Family (COAF)

      Help and Hope for families affected by alcohol and other drug abuse.
  • Helpful Information

    • Should I be worried?

      How can you tell if a teen is involved with drugs? There are no hard and fast rules, but there are warning signs. Learn how to spot the most common signs and symptoms of teen drug abuse. Click here to visit our Drug Facts section.
    • What's an intervention?

      When people engage in self-destructive behavior, they often don't realize that they need help. An intervention is when family members or friends confront a loved one about his or her addiction, express their concern, and offer suggestions about how and where to get help.     • Calling all parents:

      More than half of all American kids will try drugs at least once between first and 12th grade. Talking to your kids about the dangers of drug abuse can help steer them in the right direction. Click here for help on talking to your kids.
