Phoenix House Names Monty Mueller to Head Texas Region
Monty Mueller has been named to head up Phoenix House of Texas as vice president and regional director. He is responsible for the management of a wide range of substance abuse prevention and treatment services in Texas including residential and outpatient treatment, aftercare and family support services. Phoenix House Tackles “Cheese” in Dallas
A dangerous new drug known as “cheese” has skyrocketed in popularity in Dallas area schools, spurring Phoenix House to actively combat its use through community and school prevention programs as well as providing treatment to adolescents already hooked on the trendy drug. Read more
   
 
 
 
 
  Texas First Lady Celebrates Family Day at Phoenix Academy

Students Capture the Capitol City
The Austin prevention team gave kids in their program a disposable camera, and then took them to locations around the City on an educational photo shoot. Some of the shots were chosen for an exhibit at the Children’s Museum. Read more.
 
 
 
 
 
  After the Storms
The terrible destruction caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita shocked the nation and the world. In Texas, Phoenix House counselors volunteered at shelters in Austin and Houston providing general assistance and counseling to evacuated families. Lights, Camera, Action!
An HBO documentary crew spent three days filming students at the Phoenix Academy of Austin this summer. The footage will be used for an upcoming special on substance abuse treatment. Phoenix Academy of Austin is a residential drug and alcohol addiction treatment facility in Austin, Texas.

Letters from Home
Students from the Phoenix Academy of Austin were delighted to finally meet Sergeant Evans, the young soldier they have been writing to in Iraq. Evans visited the Academy while home on leave. He spoke about his experiences in Iraq, and how much it has meant to him to receive their letters.
 
 
 
 
 
  First Southwest Grant is Largest Donation to Date
Phoenix House in Texas received a $250,000 grant from First Southwest Company given in support of the Phoenix Academy of Dallas. The grant was awarded by the board of directors of First Southwest Company in recognition of the generosity and leadership of Hill A. Feinberg, and his commitment to Phoenix House and the children of Texas.

  Phoenix Academy Gets Results
The RAND Corporation, one of the nation’s most trusted research organizations, has confirmed the effectiveness of Phoenix House’s treatment for teens. A study published by RAND found that teens treated at a Phoenix Academy demonstrated substantial reductions in drug use and improvement in psychological well-being – and that the Phoenix Academy outperformed other teen programs in these areas.
