Phoenix House Honors First Southwest Chairman
Hill A. Feinberg and City of Dallas
at Dedication of Adolescent Treatment Center
DALLAS, TX, November 5, 2004 – Phoenix House held a
dedication ceremony last night to honor First Southwest Company for contributing
$250,000 to its Phoenix Academy of Dallas, and to rename the facility after Hill
A. Feinberg, First Southwest’s Chairman and CEO. The ceremony also honored
the City of Dallas and other key donors and foundations that have provided financial
support for the Academy. The donation from First Southwest is the largest ever
received by Phoenix House in Texas.
The Phoenix Academy of Dallas, founded in October, 2002, is a residential high
school that provides substance abuse treatment to more than 30 adolescents –
helping them catch up academically and reclaim lost opportunities. In recognition
of the support of Mr. Feinberg, the facility will now be called The Hill A. Feinberg
Academy.
Hill A. Feinberg, chairman and CEO of First Southwest Company joined the Texas
board of Phoenix House in 1996, and has served as its chairman since 2002. Mr.
Feinberg, a resident of Dallas, is active in numerous industry, civic and charitable
organizations. He is currently chairman of the board of directors of the MBM
Foundation, which is the governing board of the partnership of Menninger Clinic
– Baylor College of Medicine – The Methodist Hospital Foundation.
He is also a member of the boards of Cardiopulmonary Research Science and Technology
Institute and Zale Lipshy University Medical Center.
Last night’s ceremony also honored the City of Dallas, which rents the
Academy building to Phoenix House for $1 a year, and many other individuals,
foundations and companies that have provided critical financial support to the
Academy over the past two years. Honorees include The Dallas Foundation, Dallas
Women’s Foundation, Deloitte and Touche, Hillcrest Foundation, Hoblitzelle
Foundation, The Meadows Foundation, Neiman Marcus, Eugene Straus Charitable Trust,
Tess P. White Foundation, JC Penney, Kelli and Gerald J. Ford, Sydney and J.L.
Huffines, Mr. And Mrs. Carl Sewell, Jr., and Allen and Kelli Questrom.
"The generosity of all of the individuals and organizations honored
today t has helped the Dallas Academy through some difficult financial times
and it will allow us to make needed capital improvements to our facility,"
said Phoenix House regional director Michael Hathcoat. "Most of all, it
will help troubled teenagers in Dallas and surrounding counties reclaim their
lives and work toward a brighter future."
"The work of Phoenix House and the lasting impact it has on our children
is something I truly believe in," said Mr. Feinberg. "It’s
humbling that the First Southwest Company board of directors chose to honor me
in this way. I see it as a heartfelt tribute from one great organization to another."
Founded in 1946, First Southwest Company serves more than 2,000 municipalities
nationwide with financial advisory, underwriting, placement and related services.
The firm also provides asset management and arbitrage rebate services to local
governments and public agencies as well as advisory services to corporations,
financial institutions, nonprofit entities and high-net-worth investors.
Phoenix House has been providing substance abuse services in Texas for nearly
ten years and now operates 12 programs in Dallas, Austin and the Houston/Galveston
Bay area. Among these are two Phoenix Academies for teens in Austin and Dallas,
residential high schools that provide comprehensive substance abuse treatment
to adolescents while helping them catch up academically. In recent years, Phoenix
House has expanded its focus to provide prevention and education programs for
Texas teenagers.
