The Annual Artists and Writers Charity Softball Game Celebrates 60 Years.
The 60th Annual Artist and Writers Charity Softball Game will be held at Herrick Park in East Hampton on August 16 at 3:00pm. The charity softball event will benefit Phoenix House, East End Hospice and East Hampton Day Care. Read more.


 
Phoenix House celebrated its 40th Anniversary on May 7th with a Gala at The Plaza in New York City.
The benefit dinner was a tribute to the founder of Phoenix House, Dr. Mitchell S. Rosenthal, for his four decades of inspiring leadership. The event also honored The Honorable Peter G. Peterson, a towering presence in the worlds of finance and public affairs and a dedicated supporter of Phoenix House for more than 30 years. The dinner was chaired by Jeffrey L. Bewkes, President and CEO of Time Warner, Inc. with brief remarks from Mayor Michael Bloomberg. And of course, the evening celebrated our clients and their families, who have worked so hard to achieve the hope of a bright, successful future. Read more

 

 

 
Phoenix House Fundraiser to Benefit IMPACT
On Thursday, May 1 st, the Phoenix House Young Leader’s Committee hosted a fundraiser to benefit IMPACT, Phoenix House’s after-school program for at-risk New York City teens – and their families – who are struggling with alcohol or drug abuse. The event was held at D’Or, a newly opened NYC hot-spot in the Dream Hotel, conveniently located in midtown Manhattan at 204 West 55 th Street.

New Year’s “Polar Bear” Plunge Supports Phoenix Academy of Long Island
Phoenix House received nearly $1,000 in funds generously donated by Colin Mather, owner of the Seafood Shop in Wainscott, East Hampton, via proceeds from the 8th annual New Year’s Seafood Shop-sponsored “Polar Bear” plunge. A crowd of hundreds of enthusiastic onlookers cheered on the “Bears” as they arrived at the shore after a 1.6 mile group run from the Seafood Shop. Later, all congregated at a private residence to enjoy hot food and beverages at the celebratory fundraising gathering in support of Phoenix Academy of Long Island. Read more
 

 
 
25th Graduation at the Phoenix Academy of New York
In an emotional ceremony, 31 students who had not previously been expected to graduate received their high school diplomas at the Phoenix Academy of New York in Westchester on June 26. Read more

Theater Night Supports IMPACT
More than 300 friend of Phoenix House enjoyed an exclusive night at the hot new hip-hop musical In the Heights. The lively musical performance was followed by a special discussion with the cast after the show.  Proceeds from the evening provided support for the Phoenix House IMPACT program which offers counseling and drug treatment for at-risk teens and their families throughout New York City.

  Public Service Award Dinner Honors Viacom’s Philippe Dauman
Phoenix House honored Viacom for its commitment to causes that benefit youth by presenting the 2007 Public Service Award to Philippe Dauman, president and CEO, on Tuesday, June 5 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Among the guests gathered at the gala were Sumner Redstone, CBS’s Les Moonves, MTV’s Judy McGrath, ABC’s Lynn Sherr, BET’s Deborah Lee, Showtime’s Matt Blank, and Foreign Affairs editor James Hoge. Phoenix House honored Rose Marie Bravo of Burberry and Stefani Greenfield of Scoop NYC at the 2007 Fashion Award Dinner.   HBO Hosts Phoenix House “Addiction” Screening in New York
Board members, alumni and other special guests of Phoenix House attended a special screening and reception hosted by HBO on March 20 in New York City. Phoenix House president and CEO Howard Meitiner and John Hoffman, a of producer HBO’s “Addiction,” introduced two featured segments - “Understanding Relapse” and “The Adolescent Addict” – which were followed by a discussion led by Dr. David Deitch. Phoenix House Polar Bear Splash-Down 2007
Dive into the New Year by plunging into the Atlantic Ocean to raise funds for Phoenix House with dozens of other supporters during the annual Seafood Shop/Phoenix House Polar Bear Splash-Down 2007 in the Hamptons. Gather at The Seafood Shop just after 2PM on New Year’s Day and jog the 1.6 miles to the ocean or meet at the end of Beach Lane in Wainscott. Make donations and sign up for the event in advance at The Seafood Shop or right at the beach that day. 2006 New York Graduation - Watch the Video. State Senator Jose M. Serrano lauded Phoenix House graduates as "heroes" during his commencement address to 130 Phoenix House New York teens and adults who were celebrated for having completed long term substance abuse treatment. The graduation ceremony, held on November 9 at Congregation Rodeph Shalom in Manhattan, marked the successful completion of treatment and a year of aftercare by the participants. Sopranos Help Phoenix House Honor HBO’s Chris Albrecht
Sopranos creator David Chase, co-stars James Gandolfini and Edie Falco and executive producer Ilene Landress were among the notables at the Waldorf-Astoria on June 13 as Phoenix House honored HBO Chief Executive Officer Chris Albrecht (pictured here on the right) with its annual Public Service Award.

Phoenix House Fashion Award Dinner
Phoenix House raised in excess of $1 million at its 2006 Fashion Award Dinner. Proceeds from the dinner – which honored Frank Doroff, senior executive vice president and general merchandise manager of Bloomingdale’s and Andrew Rosen, president and founder of Theory – will go to support Phoenix House’s treatment programs for adolescents in nine states. Christopher Kennedy Lawford Book Party
Several Phoenix House supporters gathered to celebrate Christopher Kennedy Lawford's new best-seller, Symptoms of Withdrawal. At a book party hosted by Phoenix House board members Beth Rudin DeWoody and Annette Tapert, Lawford explained how recovery from drug addiction taught him that "one human being sharing their experience, strength and hope with another is among the most powerful engines for change on the planet." On October 17, 2005 Phoenix House celebrated the accomplishment of some 200 adults and teens who completed long term substance abuse treatment programs in New York City. The graduation ceremony was held at Riverside Church in Manhattan, with Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion, Jr. (pictured) as the commencement speaker.

Teens Triumph Over Addiction
In late June, 25 young men and women graduated from the Phoenix Academy of New York and were presented with their New York City Department of Education Regents diplomas. Class representative, Jessica, spoke at the ceremony about her own struggles with drugs and alcohol, and her pride in having completed the program. “Phoenix House has made a big difference in my life, changed the way I feel about myself, and helped me set goals for the future,” she said. Jessica plans to pursue a career as a pediatrician.
