outpatient programs for adults and adolescents in New York City, upstate
New York, and Long Island, treating some 2,500 individuals every day.

Phoenix House IMPACT program Hosted a Night at the Movies
Phoenix House hosted a pre-screening of Woody Allen’s newest movie, “Whatever Works,” to raise money for the Phoenix Houses’ Youth Service program. Funds were raised to help enhance the services that NYC teens and their families already receive through the programs including sober recreational activities such as trips to dinner, the movies, adventure activities and museums, and advanced vocational and educational services and transportation to get back and forth to treatment. 2009 NYC Youth Gang Symposium
In response to a recent spike in gang violence within residential substance abuse treatment settings, a diverse team of government agencies and youth service providers partnered to host the 2009 NYC Youth Gang Symposium to raise awareness, identify effective interventions, and develop new solutions to reduce gang violence among NYC’s youth. Phoenix House Long Island Projects
In response to a submitted request for proposal application Phoenix House was recently awarded a contract from The State’s Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services to create a 25-bed community residence for newly recovering women on Long Island. This program will include underserved specialty populations.

Following a proposal submission, Phoenix House was chosen for the Nassau County Reclaiming Futures Initiative for Adolescent Out-Patient Treatment. This initiative is currently active and development will begin as Phoenix House works in concert with the Reclaiming Futures team in the areas of Adolescent Evidence Based Practices and treatment development immediately.

May 4th 2009 is New York “Your Story Matters” Day
Governor David A. Paterson has declared Monday, May 4, 2009 as “Your Story Matters” Day in New York State. Commissioner Karen M. Carpenter-Palumbo, Senator Shirley Huntley, Assemblyman Felix Ortiz and members of the New York State Legislature will have a press event to support the stories of recovery in the Your Story Matters campaign. OASAS will have a Your Story Matters exhibit at the Well of the LOB from May 4-5. There will be a voluntary photo opportunity for those who wish to show their support for people in recovery at 12:30 pm where media reporters, TV cameras and photographers will be invited. The press event will take place at the Well of the Legislative Office Building (LOB) in Albany located at the Empire State Plaza, State Street. Phoenix House hosted the 1st Annual Freedom Classic at Liberty National Golf Course
On May 4th, 2009, Phoenix House hosted it's first ever golf tournament at Liberty National Golf Course, the future home of the PGA Barclay’s golf tournament. After a round of golf surrounded by the New York City skyline and the Statue of Liberty, a dinner and silent auction were held at the clubhouse. All proceeds from the event will benefit Phoenix House’s drug and alcohol prevention and treatment programs. Click here to see photos on our Facebook page.

2009 Phoenix Rising Award Dinner
On Monday, March 30th, Phoenix House honored Lisa Ellis of Fireman Capital Partners/Carnival House Recordings at the Phoenix Rising Award Dinner in New York City. Over 300 people attended the event which featured a stellar performance by Grammy winners, Wyclef Jean and Miri Ben-Ari, the Hip-Hop violinist. Along with the exciting performances, two Phoenix House clients shared their story of recovery and how they worked to overcome their addiction while at Phoenix House. To honor Dr. Martin Luther King’s realized dream and to celebrate the inauguration of Barack Obama, the first African-American President of the United States, Phoenix House AmeriCorps members and staff regaled in a combined celebration with Phoenix House clients. As a diverse group of more than 200 individuals – representing a broad range of creeds, races, ages, and genders – we shared pride, joy, hope and great gratitude for this monumental occasion. Together, we celebrated the past and the present, and reaffirmed our commitment to bridging the gaps of social injustice and racial inequality. Click here to read more.

New Year’s "Polar Bear" Plunge Supports Phoenix Academy of Long Island
On the first day of 2009, with temperatures dipping into the 20’s several Phoenix House Long Island Academy residents along with the East Hampton Seafood Shop "Polar Bears", dipped into the icy Atlantic waters at Beach Lane to raise money for the Phoenix Academy of Long Island. Read more.

2008 New York Graduaction and Recovery Celebration

New York Graduation and Recovery Celebration
Nearly 400 Phoenix House graduates and their family and friends gathered at Congregation Rodeph Shalom on Manhattan’s Upper West Side for the Graduation and Recovery Celebration held November 6, 2008. The annual ceremony marked the completion of treatment and aftercare by men and women from Phoenix House’s of New York. Click here to read more about the event.

Phoenix House Americorps Member Jacqueline DelValle Represents Phoenix House at AmeriCorps Kickoff Celebration
Phoenix House AmeriCorps Member Jacqueline DelValle was chosen to represent Phoenix House AmeriCorps and the Youth Power Mentoring Corps at the 2008 New York State AmeriCorps Kickoff Celebration at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany on Wednesday November 19th. More than 1,300 AmeriCorps members, representing 46 programs from throughout New York State, gathered to take the oath that begins their year of service to the State and country.

2008 Recovery Rally
On Saturday September 27, nearly 600 Phoenix House clients, along with nearly five thousand individuals in recovery, their friends and families, advocates, and treatment providers, participated in the kick-off to A&E Network’s The Recovery Project, a wide-ranging, multi-year initiative. Delegates from all fifty states participated in the rally and joined together to form a human chain – a living symbol of recovery -- across the historic Brooklyn Bridge and proceeded to a rally at City Hall Park in Lower Manhattan where they were treated to a performance by Rufus Wainwright.
