Phoenix House Public Service Luncheon Raises $170,000 to Expand Treatment Services in New England

PROVIDENCE, RI, June 13, 2007 — Phoenix House, the nation’s leading non-profit substance abuse treatment and prevention organization, raised $170,000 at its 2007 Public Service Award Luncheon held here on Tuesday, June 12, 2007. Proceeds from the event – which honored William F. Hatfield, President, Bank of America Rhode Island – will help fund the expansion of Phoenix House services in New England.
Phoenix House New England Chairman Donald P. Wolfe welcomed more than 425 guests who attended the luncheon, held at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence, Rhode Island.
The event was co-chaired by Bank of America executives Oliver H. L. Bennett, Senior VP/ Commercial Banking; Paul Lenahan, Senior VP/ Director of Investments; and Virginia C. Roberts, Senior VP/Government Banking.
Phoenix House’s annual New England Public Service Award honors exceptional men and women whose achievements and service to society inspire young people struggling to reclaim disordered lives. Last year’s recipient, Donna C. Cupelo of Verizon Communications, served as Honorary Chair at this year’s luncheon.
Also in attendance were previous PSA honorees Thomas F. Gilbane, CEO of Gilbane Construction, and Howard G. Sutton, Publisher of the Providence Journal.
“I am honored to receive this award from Phoenix House on behalf of the 4,000 men and omen who work for Bank of America in Rhode Island,” Mr. Hatfield said. “When Phoenix House honors me, they honor all of our employees and I can’t think of a finer organization to be affiliated with than Phoenix House.”
In addition, Phoenix House’s capital fund campaign for its Phoenix Academy in Wallum Lake has met its $1 million goal, campaign chair Peter Ottmar announced at the luncheon.
Phoenix House is the nation’s largest non-profit provider of substance abuse treatment and prevention services, operating nearly 100 programs in nine states. Phoenix House of New England operates some 30 programs for adults and teens in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
