Phoenix House of Florida’s first annual Humanitarian of the Year
Phoenix House of Florida’s first annual Humanitarian of the Year Award dinner was held on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at Higgins Hall, St. Lawrence Catholic Church, in Tampa, Florida. The event honored board member Monsignor Laurence Higgins, in appreciation of his many meaningful contributions to Phoenix House and the Tampa area. Read more and see photos.

 


 

PHOENIX HOUSE APPOINTS TIM NOONAN AS CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD
Tim Noonan, CEO and president of Lockton Insurance Brokers, LLC has just been selected as Chairman of the California Board of Directors. Mr. Noonan served on the board for the past five years and was previously presented with the Public Service Award at the Phoenix House Triumph For Teens Awards Gala in 2006. Read more.


Phoenix House Fundraiser to Benefit IMPACT
On Thursday, May 1 st, the Phoenix House Young Leader’s Committee hosted a fundraiser to benefit IMPACT, Phoenix House’s after-school program for at-risk New York City teens – and their families – who are struggling with alcohol or drug abuse. The event was held at D’Or, a newly opened NYC hot-spot in the Dream Hotel, conveniently located in midtown Manhattan at 204 West 55 th Street.

Phoenix House celebrated its 40th Anniversary on May 7th with a Gala at The Plaza in New York City.
The benefit dinner was a tribute to the founder of Phoenix House, Dr. Mitchell S. Rosenthal, for his four decades of inspiring leadership. The event also honored The Honorable Peter G. Peterson, a towering presence in the worlds of finance and public affairs and a dedicated supporter of Phoenix House for more than 30 years. The dinner was chaired by Jeffrey L. Bewkes, President and CEO of Time Warner, Inc. with brief remarks from Mayor Michael Bloomberg. And of course, the evening celebrated our clients and their families, who have worked so hard to achieve the hope of a bright, successful future. Read more


Fifth Annual Triumph for Teens Awards Gala Benefits California Academies
On Tuesday April 8, Phoenix Houses of California hosted The Fifth Annual Phoenix House Triumph for Teens Awards Gala at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills. The cast of ABC’s “Brothers & Sisters” received the 2008 Phoenix Rising Award, along with Los Angeles Police Chief William J. Bratton his wife, trial lawyer, television commentator, author and actress Rikki Kleiman who were honorees of the 2008 Public Service Award, which recognizes their contribution to civic life, exemplary leadership and their efforts to bring change to at-risk and disadvantaged youth.
 

  Phoenix Academy of Los Angeles Featured on the YouthGive.org Site
Phoenix Academy of Los Angeles received recognition by Alice Wasserman, 7 th grader from Lincoln Middle school as part of the volunteer organization, YouthGive.org. YouthGive.org helps to grow the next generation of givers and global citizens, believing that everyone can be a philanthropist. Derek Jeter Center at Phoenix House Celebrates Partnership to Help Recovering Teens
Phoenix House joined New York Yankee Shortstop and Turn 2 Foundation President Derek Jeter in a dedication and renaming ceremony for “The Derek Jeter Center at Phoenix House.” Jeter also presented a generous $500,000 donation from the Turn 2 Foundation that will enhance existing programs, provide clients with expanded services, and strengthen the effort to help young people working to overcome addiction.   “The Color Purple” Performance Raises Funds And Awareness for Phoenix House
More than 100 board members and friends of Phoenix House gathered at the Ahmanson Theatre earlier this year for a performance of Oprah Winfrey’s “The Color Purple.”  The play’s theme tied-in well with the important work of Phoenix House—helping individuals tap into their inner strengths to overcome hardship, recognize how family and friends can help them work through tough times, and understand that each person has the ability to create his or her own life.  Read more.
