FORTUNOFF C.O.O. HOWARD MEITINER JOINS PHOENIX HOUSE FOUNDATION
BOARD
New York, NY, December 16, 2004 —Howard P. Meitiner,
the Chief Operating Officer at Fortunoff, was named to the Phoenix House Foundation
Board of Directors at the Board’s December meeting.
"Howard Meitiner brings to Phoenix House an impressive record of public
service and a deep commitment to our work,” said Mitchell S. Rosenthal,
M.D., President of Phoenix House. "He has made clear his strong desire
to help us fulfill our mission of putting the lives of children and adolescents
back on track.”
Dr. Rosenthal also said that Mr. Meitiner’s appointment to the board
would strengthen Phoenix House’s ties to Long Island – where Fortunoff
is headquartered and where Phoenix House operates 16 treatment programs –
and to the retail industry, in which Fortunoff is one of the most recognizable
and renowned companies.
"Abused and endangered children have always been my personal passion
and the focal point of my charitable efforts,” said Mr. Meitiner. "Phoenix
House is doing great work for at-risk youth and I am looking forward to becoming
involved with their efforts in this area.”
At Fortunoff, where he manages business development projects, Mr. Meitiner
is responsible for efficiency and productivity in all areas of the operation,
and provides overall strategic leadership to drive growth and expansion. Previously,
he was Chief Executive Officer of Sephora, a beauty-retail company founded in
France and acquired by Paris-based LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, the world’s
leading luxury products group.
Phoenix House is the nation’s largest nonprofit provider of substance
abuse treatment and prevention services, operating more than 100 programs in
nine states. Founded in 1967, Phoenix House currently cares for a population
of more than 6,000 at residential centers for adults, residential Phoenix Academies
combining long-term treatment and schooling for adolescents, outpatient, after
school, and day programs.
