FORTUNOFF C.O.O. HOWARD MEITINER JOINS PHOENIX HOUSE FOUNDATION BOARD

New York, NY, December 16, 2004 —Howard P. Meitiner, the Chief Operating Officer at Fortunoff, was named to the Phoenix House Foundation Board of Directors at the Board’s December meeting.

"Howard Meitiner brings to Phoenix House an impressive record of public service and a deep commitment to our work,” said Mitchell S. Rosenthal, M.D., President of Phoenix House. "He has made clear his strong desire to help us fulfill our mission of putting the lives of children and adolescents back on track.”

Dr. Rosenthal also said that Mr. Meitiner’s appointment to the board would strengthen Phoenix House’s ties to Long Island – where Fortunoff is headquartered and where Phoenix House operates 16 treatment programs – and to the retail industry, in which Fortunoff is one of the most recognizable and renowned companies.

"Abused and endangered children have always been my personal passion and the focal point of my charitable efforts,” said Mr. Meitiner. "Phoenix House is doing great work for at-risk youth and I am looking forward to becoming involved with their efforts in this area.”

At Fortunoff, where he manages business development projects, Mr. Meitiner is responsible for efficiency and productivity in all areas of the operation, and provides overall strategic leadership to drive growth and expansion. Previously, he was Chief Executive Officer of Sephora, a beauty-retail company founded in France and acquired by Paris-based LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, the world’s leading luxury products group.

Phoenix House is the nation’s largest nonprofit provider of substance abuse treatment and prevention services, operating more than 100 programs in nine states. Founded in 1967, Phoenix House currently cares for a population of more than 6,000 at residential centers for adults, residential Phoenix Academies combining long-term treatment and schooling for adolescents, outpatient, after school, and day programs.

Founded in 1922, Fortunoff has established itself as one of the most trusted names in the retail industry.
